My name is Kasia. Don’t let the spelling fool you, it’s pronounced Ka-sha, like the porridge commonly eaten in Eastern Europe. Don’t worry, my Polish parents did not have a weird penchant for buckwheat; ‘Kasia’ is actually the diminutive of Katarzyna, i.e. Kathryn (or Katherine) in English. It’s like calling a Kathryn, ‘Kathy’. Quite a common name in Poland, actually. I tell this story a lot since my VISA and passport and other official stuff says Kathryn and it always causes some confusion. Interestingly, I just found out last year that my real name is actually Kathryn-Edith. I guess this means all the official documentation I have is officially wrong. For the past 29 years, I thought my middle name was Edith, as in, Kathryn SPACE Edith, but someone someplace last year pointed out the tricky little hyphen that has existed on my Birth Certificate all this time without me or anyone else noticing. Isn’t that funny.
But you can call me plain ol’ Kasia.
As you may have noticed, I prefer to take a meandering route anywhere I go. Life is more interesting that way.
I was born in in Calgary, Alberta and ended up in Vancouver, BC but have lived in several places in between including, but not limited to: Toronto, Montreal, Rennes (France) and Rovaniemi (Finland. Yep, that’s right, just a few kilometres shy of the Arctic Circle.) Vancouver is by far my favorite and I plan on sticking around for awhile.
I recently turned 30 though I don’t feel it and will be trying to pass myself off as 25 for a few years yet.
I’m engaged to a hilarious guy named Rob who makes me bust a gut several times a day and with whom I’m madly in love. Later this year, we will finally tie the knot in a crazy week-long celebration. I’m also madly in love with his family and with mine, who I like to call the Finks and the Knebs, respectively.
My greatest joy, other than my friends and family, is finding beauty in the most unexpected places and people.
Oh, and about the name Purple Gables – it’s a mash of two things that I love so much they’ve become a part of me: Anne of Green Gables and the color purple. If you know me in real life, it will make sense.
If you want to get in touch, I’d love to hear from you! Send me an email at purplegables at gmail dot com.
Or hey, leave a comment and let me know how you got here.

Fear Kasia
Curiousity is one of the best things in like. You have just proved that you have it… you didn’t just sit down and wonder “is it a chick or is it a duck” no you took the time and initiative to ask the source”. Kudos to you. Kit

How totally random! I noticed that you responded to the “From Sparkly to Spouse” blog right after me and I thought, “Hey, I know her!” So hi!
