So yesterday I embarked on the last year of my journey through the twenties… or at least, technically my last year. Age being just a number (or so they say), I’ve decided to see how long I can be 29. So far, friends I’ve surveyed have said I can pull it off for at least 5 years which suits me fine. It may be even longer: the guy I spoke with on the phone Saturday while booking a table thought I was 17 so if we’re going on voice alone, it could be awhile.
At any rate, I had a marvelous birthday weekend full of food, frivolity and martinis. Saturday we went ice skating at the Kerrisdale rink with Duane, Lisa, Tim, Emily and the Robs (Emily’s and mine) which was fun in a funny sort of way. I couldn’t help thinking it felt like one of those “good clean fun” get-togethers I participated in back in the day when I had Mormon friends. Skating, bowling, board games… I guess when you get older the activities you’re used to (i.e. dinner & drinks) gets, well, old, and you start doing those kiddie-type things again. It’s just one big cycle in the end, I suppose.
But back to the good stuff. After skating (during which my-Rob made me accidentally topple over a little kid and then told her to stay away from the “big bad girl cause she’s full of trouble and will probably try to knock you over again”), we went to Nevermind in Kits for a few drinks with good friends. The ambiance was cozy and the company fantastic (even if the service wasn’t). I think at one point there were about 12 of us and looking around, I couldn’t help thinking how lucky I am to have such great new friends here in Vancouver (!) along with all my other nearest and dearest scattered around the world who called to sing happy birthday (once even in Spanish from as far as El Salvador! ay carumba!) Thanks to all who called, texted & emailed… I love you all!!
On Sunday, in addition to being spoiled (more than usual) by Rob in the form of brunch, presents and back-rubs, I was treated to a pool party at the Finks’ (i.e. lazing around the hot tub while watching Gabriel be hilarious), dinner and cake! And then… Rob presented me with the real surprise:
It took me about 30 seconds before the light went off in my head!! OMIGOSH!!!!!
Can you figure it out?? Leave a comment and we’ll see how many people know me really well!
So far the year is off to a great start. See more birthday pictures here.
You can also read about it on Duane’s blog here and see all of his pictures here.

No really. I have no idea where this is. Unless, it is Green Gables, but like why would you go to PEI, when you live in Vancouver? AND, frankly, I have been to Green Gables and it reallly wasn’t all that. Heritage Park is WAY better. You know Kas, some things are better left in your head. Maybe you’ll understand when you’re 30…..

I have no clue where this is. Erin called me thinking perhaps Rob bought you a house but I don’t see any washroom sin the floor plans. Basically, I’m clueless.
